Diggin' up Gold!
Originally started at the Springville Sierra Rodeo when the bad guys buried their stolen loot from the stagecoach robbery. This tradition continues in a more refined manner at the rodeo performances on Saturday and Sunday. The event is open to kids 8 and under. Today we use silver dollar coins that are scattered in the arena. The children are then corralled in to a circle, asked to face outward while the coins are tossed. They are then “released” to dig and find as many coins as they can within a set timeframe. A favorite with the kids and a kick to watch.
