Diggin' up Gold!
Originally started at the Springville Sierra Rodeo when the bad guys buried their stolen loot from the stagecoach robbery. This tradition continues in a more refined manner at the rodeo performances on Saturday and Sunday. The event is open to kids 12 and under. Today we use silver dollar coins that are scattered in the arena. The children are then corralled in to a circle, asked to face outward while the coins are tossed. They are then “released” to dig and find as many coins as they can within a set timeframe. A favorite with the kids and a kick to watch.
